Installing Ubuntu
I’ve been waiting for long to install Ubuntu in my Laptop.
My Interest start when I saw youtube video comparing Ubuntu and Vista. I surprised to see the new development of Linux. In my opinion, Linux already surpassing Windows for desktop OS.
Last time I used Linux was 3 years ago. Using Mandrake and Redhat for my server, and never want to use Linux in my desktop. The reason is simple, there is no difference between Linux and Windows. Beside that, I felt that Linux is slower than Windows for desktop application, not to mention that Linux has not much support for drivers and application.
But now, I change my opinion. The Linux ability to show a marvelous 3 D desktop view that better than Vista Aero. Ubuntu using Compiz to make it happen. You can see many variations of desktop view (including the sophisticated 3 D view) by installing Compiz in your Linux system.
Trust me, it’s awesome. I suggest you to try Ubuntu (Version 7.1 and later that already includes Compiz by default) and feel the new experience in desktop application.
I’m using Dell latitude D410 laptop and finished installing Ubuntu 7.04 (Feasty Fawn) flawlessly. It can detect all hardware (including wireless adapter, LAN, Display adapter) and it even can show on screen hardware setting. My only doubt is on bluetooth drivers. I haven’t try it yet.
PS: To make Compiz work on my Dell, I have to tweak on display settings.
Warm Regards.
